Village School
Philosophy and Purpose
Village School,
an independent elementary school, seeks to create a welcoming community that embraces
diversity. The student body is comprised
of a socioeconomically diverse population and valued by all members of the Village
community. The Financial Aid Program
seeks to provide financial assistance to those who would not otherwise be able
to afford to attend Village. Village
admits qualified students regardless of racial, religious, ethnic, national or
economic background. Village School
feels the primary responsibility for financing education rests with the family.
After all of the family's own resources have been exhausted, families are
encouraged to apply for financial aid to make up the difference between the cost
of education and the expected family contribution.
Criteria for Awarding Financial Aid
-
Financial
Aid is awarded to families who demonstrate financial need as determined by the
need-analysis system of the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS)
and Village's own financial aid policies. - Renewal
of financial aid is our first priority.
Then, consideration is given to those seeking aid for the first time.
- In
evaluating the amount of aid needed to meet tuition costs, the Financial Aid Committee
takes into account the family's other children (ages, schools they attend, etc.),
additional dependents, all sources of income, priority of spending, debts, assets,
and expenses.
- Renewal
of the grant is based on proof of continued financial need and good citizenship.
New SSS forms, tax forms, and Village financial aid forms must be submitted
each year. The admissions office
will mail out new financial aid packets to current financial aid recipients. Notification
of the financial aid decisions for returning students will be mailed the first
week of March.
-
Admission
decisions are made without consideration of the financial circumstances of the
applicant. After the Admissions Committee has reached its decision, the
Financial Aid Committee makes grants to accepted students who have submitted financial
aid applications and have demonstrated need. New applicants will receive financial
aid packets, when requested, during the admissions process.
Notification of the financial aid decisions for new students will be
mailed with the Enrollment Contract in late March.
-
Only
the financial aid committee is privy to the confidential financial information
in your file.
-
In
the case of divorced, separated, or never married parents; the non-custodial or
joint custody parent must complete the "Financial Statement for Parents who are
Separated or Divorced or Have Never Been Married" application and return it to
the school. Also, they must submit
copies of their last two years tax returns and W-2's to the School.
The custodial parent will be required to complete all Village School Financial
Aid forms.
The
School will not be bound by the assertion of one parent that he/she is not responsible
for educational expenses, even in the case of divorce or remarriage. If information from both parents is not available at the time
the application is evaluated, it may cause an arbitrary assessment of financial
need to be made by the School. This
may result in a lesser award or no award at all.
-
If
either natural parent remarries or resides with a significant other, the financial
information submitted to both SSS and the School must include all
household income. If either of the
natural parents remarries; we shall bear in mind the obligations of the stepparent
to his or her natural children.
-
A "Business/Farm
Statement(s)" must be submitted to the School for each business or farm owned.
All tax forms and tax schedules pertaining to the business(es) and/or farm(s)
must be submitted to the School.
-
Financial
Aid applications will not be reviewed until all forms have been received by Village
School.
-
Upon
reception of the results from SSS and the submission of all tax returns, W-2's,
and Village financial aid forms, the Director of Financial Aid will arrive at
an award amount. This amount will
be taken to the Financial Aid Committee where they may increase the amount, reduce
the amount or request additional information.
-
The
financial aid award is in the form of a grant, which does not need to be paid
back to the School. It is the School's policy to keep award amounts confidential
and we ask that all recipients abide by this policy.
-
In
addition to the financial aid award to cover tuition, aid is available so that
all students may have the opportunity to participate in all activities sponsored
by Village School (school trips, athletics, hot lunch, etc.).
The amount given is based on the remaining available funds, and will be
proportional to the cost of the activity at the same rate as the original award
was to tuition.
If
you are denied financial aid, several outside organizations offer financing programs
to families. Eligibility is based on credit worthiness; repayment can be financed for
up to 10 years.
