This
is Fifth Grade--Welcome!
This
year is going to be an exciting, challenging, and memorable year. Everything
we will be doing will require all your knowledge, talent, and creativity.
We are going to be reading, and reading a lot! The novels we read will make
you smile, laugh, think, and cry. Writing? Oh yes! You will be doing
a lot of that. You will be keeping journals, writing diaries from historical
events, writing poetry, verse, writing research papers, and more and more.
Oh, don't forget about math and science--we surly haven't. When's the last
time you created your own tessellation? Or tossed your creative "egg
chamber" from 40 feet?
In
Social Studies we will explore how our country was formed and the responsibility
of freedom. This year, of course, we will be visiting Jamestown, Yorktown
and Williamsburg. In addition to this, we will also be creating our own
country which will include a government, a monetary system as well as student
owned businesses. And don't forget about your State Report that includes
a virtual trip to that state. Hey, we'll even give you your own drivers
license and credit card!
One
of our goals in fifth grade is to foster a supportive environment where children
are concerned with finding multiple solutions to problems rather than finding
any one right answer.
So,
now that you have been invited--come along!
