First Grade's community service project:
Heal the Bay

The 1st grade program strives to provide an environment that promotes the joy of learning through collaboration and hands-on experiences.  Because we believe that children benefit from a yearlong theme that allows them to make real life connections to learned skills and concepts, we implemented our theme, “On Wings and Fins”.  This theme integrates the impressive migrations of the Monarch Butterfly and the local whale population into our classroom experiences.

Blanketing the 1st grade curriculum is the special emphasis we place on the social environment within our classrooms and school.  The entire school learns about six Village Values, respect; responsibility, trust, fairness, caring, and courage. We expect children and adults to share in the practice of these values as a means to nurture an environment for children to explore, stretch, succeed, and learn from their mistakes.
