Below are suggested reading lists recommended by the teachers and librarian for summer reading. The lists are intended for students who are leaving that grade but there may be a wide range of reading abilities between students in the same grade so parental judgement is always required when selecting appropriate books for children.
Use a Summer Reading Log to record books read during the summer. This is not required reading but merely a way for students to keep track of the books they’ve read over the summer and encourage reading for pleasure. A certificate will be give to each child who returns his/her Summer Reading Log in September. If the Summer Reading Log is lost, simply record books on a piece of lined paper. Students should bring their Summer Reading Log to their first library class when school resumes in September.
Have a wonderful summer and remember to make reading an important activity in your family life. Set aside 20 minutes everyday and read together as a family. There are many wonderful books for children to read and discover the joy of reading.
