Physical
Education
Physical
Education at Village School is a time for all students to play, have fun and have
the opportunity to be successful in a safe, supportive, challenging and cooperative
environment. Physical Education contributes to the total growth of each
child primarily through experimental movement, motor development and physical
activities.
Approximately
fifteen different physical education units are taught to grades TK-6 with the
hope that every child will leave our P.E. program having experienced success and
growth within each unit. In addition to developing loco-motor
and gross motor skills daily by using equipment exploration, students also participate
in a myriad of FUN games and activities that emphasize cooperation and teamwork.
Here
is an outline of the current P.E. curriculum we
are using.

Health
The
Health curriculum at Village School is growing daily. We
are adding to enhance it and make it state of the art and up to date with the
growing and changing times that our youth are living.

Health,
Fitness, and Safety Week Highlights
Health,
Fitness, and Safety Weeks have been a big hit!
We
have had many guest speakers that brought their professions
to life in the classroom and out on the recess yard.
We
are so lucky at Village School that we have parents that can contribute to our
Health, Fitness and Safety Week, not only as parents, but as professionals.
Thanks
to all of the parent volunteers at the Family Fun Run, all the volunteers that
have help do the tallying for the Village Exercises Across the USA, and a big
huge thanks to the coordinator of the volunteers Ruth Weston.
Thanks
Sports Supply Group BSN for the generous donations of all of the balls for the
raffle at the fun run!
It
was a great week.thanks to all the faculty for all of your support and help throughout
the week!
Stay
fit, and have fun!

Guest
Speakers
We
had Dr. Andy Leuchter (5th & 6th), Lt. John Adams (Benjamin
Adams Dad KV), Sgt. Mark Littlestone, and Ofc. Dave Barens (TK, K, 1, 2, 3, &
4th) who shared information on making good choices with alcohol, smoking,
drugs, talking to strangers, and touching things that might be found on the ground
at the beach or at a park. What to
do in all of these instances? You
would be very proud of your children, and what they have learned, and what they
already knew. We hope that these
talks have allowed you to continue to talk to your children at home, about making
good choices. If you have any
further questions, feel free to contact me.
We
had the opportunity to try on the handcuffs, and see a different type of police
car daily. We were allowed to sit
in a police car with and without a cage, look at the Mobile Command Post with
computer police truck, and check out a motorized (pedal assisted-electric) mountain
bike.
The
children were amazed at all of the gear that the police officers had to wear. Many of them tried on the 5 pound bulletproof vest, it was a very big hit! The officers explained, that their gear weighs a total of 22 lbs., including
the vest and their belt. I think
it weighed more than some of the kids.
| Elizabeth
Baron-Cole and Dr. Ruth Sorotzkin-Mandelbaum have focused on Nutrition Body, Self
Image, and making good choices to be a healthy child now, and how to grow to be
a happy and healthy teen and adult. They
focused on calcium, its benefits, and where to find it on your food labels! They looked at identifying healthy vs. unhealthy people in magazines, and
how to tell the difference, and or, could you tell just from a picture?
In the sharing
of life's challenges, the students were fortunate enough to hear from three different
speakers, Judy Stern a visually impaired mother of one sight child; |

|
| Dave Feinner a former
gymnast who became an artist; |

|
| Cliff Meidl a former
Olympian in Atlanta 1996, and Sydney 2000 in Kyaking came to talk to the 4th,
5th, and 6th graders .
He came share his experience as an Olympic athlete.
