Physical Education Curriculum

Transitional Kindergarten 

Motor Skills:

  • Underhand throw and catch
  • Ball control: rolling, bounce and catch
  • Start & stop on signal
  • Kicking: stationary & with approach
  • Locomotor Skills: Walk, run, skip, gallop, leap, & hop.
  • Non-Locomotor Skills: Bend & stretch, twist & turn.

Physical Fitness:

  • Introduce aerobic fitness:  Cooperative games, jog, dodge, jumping jacks, long & short jump ropes.
  • Introduce anaerobic fitness: Balancing & stretching.

Social Behavior:

  • Follow class rules and procedures
  • Cooperates with others & makes good choices
  • Works as a T.E.A.M. (Together Everyone Achieves More)

Kindergarten 

  •   Reinforce and practice skills previously taught and exposed to in TK.

1st  Grade

Motor Skills:

  • Throw overhand
  • Moves to catch ball & manipulative objects
  • Bounces ball with movement
  • Locomotor: Change direction; walk over, under & around obstacles.
  • Non-Locomotor:  review and refine.       

Physical Fitness:

  • Animal walks
  • Introduction to field & court games
  • Aerobic:  Builds aerobic fitness
  • Introduction to anaerobic fitness:  Balancing & stretching.

Social Behavior:

  • Follow class rules and procedures   
  • Working to his/her full capability
  • Developing inter-personal & social skills in a T.E.A.M.

2nd Grade

Motor Skills:

  • Kick & dribble moving ball
  • Side shuffle in both directions
  • Dribble ball with dominant hand   
  • Locomotor Skills: Walk backwards.
  • Non- Locomotor Skills: Balancing & stretching.

Physical Fitness:

  • Introduction to field & court games
  • Aerobic:  Jog ¼ mile, jumping jacks, obstacle course, & shuttle relay run.
  • Introduction to anaerobic fitness:  Balancing & stretching.

Social Behavior

  • Follow class rules and procedures   
  • Developing inter-personal & social skills in T.E.A.M.
  • Takes responsibility for his/her conduct

3rd Grade

Motor Skills:

  • Throw and catch various manipulatives.
  • Locomotor Skills: Combination of movements.
  • Non- Locomotor Skills: Balancing & stretching.

Physical Fitness:

  • Field & court games
  • Aerobic:  ¼ - ½ mile jog.
  • Introduction to anaerobic fitness: modified push-ups, ¼ curl-sit-up.

Social Behavior:

  • Follow class rules and procedures
  • Introduction to peer teaching        
  • Developing inter-personal & social skills in T.E.A.M.

4th Grade

Motor Skills:

  • Advanced cooperative, field & court game
  • Locomotor Skills: Grapevine steps, crazy eights, relay activities & obstacle course.
  • Non- Locomotor Skills:  Advanced balancing & stretching

Physical Fitness:

  • Understands effects of exercise, fatigue, illness and stress on body
  • Introduce Track & Field events
  • Aerobic:  jog ½ mile.
  • Anaerobic fitness: Strengthening exercises, modified push-ups, ¼ curl-sit-up

Social Behavior:

  • Follow class rules and procedures
  • Understand basic rules & strategies of games
  • Demonstrate a sense of T.E.A.M., leadership & conflict resolution skills

5th Grade

Motor Skills:

  • Advanced cooperative, field & court games
  • Locomotor Skills: Sprinting, triplets, advanced relays/obstacle course.
  • Non- Locomotor Skills: Strengthening exercises, push-ups, ¼ curl-sit-ups

Physical Fitness:

  • Introduce Personal assessment
  • Refine Track & Field skills
  • Understands principles of fitness & wellness
  • Aerobic: Plyometric exercises (explosive movements); Intro. to interval training; jog ½-1 mile.
  • Anaerobic fitness: modified push-ups, ¼ curl-sit-ups, strengthening exercises.

Social Behavior:

  • Follow class rules and procedures
  • Understand basic rules & strategies of games
  • Demonstrate a sense of T.E.A.M., leadership & conflict resolution skills

6th Grade

Motor Skills:

  • Advanced cooperative, field & court games
  • Locomotor Skills: Advanced relays/obstacle course & circuit training
  • Non- Locomotor Skills:  Advanced balancing, resistance training & stretching

Physical Fitness

  • Understands principles of Fitness & Wellness
  • Track & Field skills
  • Aerobic: Plyometric exercises; jog 1 mile; intro. to interval training.
  • Anaerobic fitness: push-ups; ¼ curl-sit-ups; stretching techniques.

Social Behavior:

  • Peer teaching with classmates
  • Understand benefits of personal and group challenges
  • Demonstrate a sense of T.E.A.M., leadership & conflict resolution skills
